FestivalTourProgram During The Year Free Zone Jr.

About Us

FREE ZONE is a series of programs based on engaged, modern film production dealing with current social and political issues from around the world. FREE ZONE films offer a completely different world view, far from Hollywood spectacles and mainstream media simplifications.

FREE ZONE has four activity areas:
- FREE ZONE Bg - film festival in November and monthly screenings
- FREE ZONE Sr - tour of selected films from the Festival
- FREE ZONE Jr - program for high school students
- FREE ZONE on TV - 'Festival TV program'

All FREE ZONE activities result from the need to clearly and affirmatively stimulate, in a communicative and novel manner, a debate on current social and political situation in the world and Serbia's position in it.

The project was initiated in 2005 by Katarina Zivanovic and Marko Popovic, while the rest of the team has changed every year.

B92 FUND

B92 Fund is acting as the initiator, producer and co-producer in different projects in the sphere of culture and media. B92 FUND has its work structured in 4 branches:
- FILM, VIDEO and RADIO production
- Social Responsibility projects
- Publishing (books, periodicals, music)
- (Engaged) contemporary art & culture

FILM, VIDEO and RADIO production (examples from the latest production)
Project Berlin - 40-minute documentary film - that presents German experience in confronting the past and comparing it with the situation Serbia finds itself in after a decade-long wars on territories of former Yugoslavia - to the Serbian public. Main goal of the project is to open the debate about collective vs. individual responsibility, thus paving the way for a separation of the responsibility of undemocratic and violent political elites that started and waged the wars, the actual perpetrators of war crimes, and individual citizens.
As part of the wider "Independents for Truth" project that deals with crimes committed against humanity during last ten years in the region, this documentary will contribute at large to the understanding of the human rights issues and infringements in this country and to the long-term process of truth and reconciliation between the region's myriad of ethnic and religious groups, to the conflict prevention and future stability of the region.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Campaign FOR OUR CHILDREN seeks to protect victims of domestic violence and build a safe home (shelter) for them in Belgrade. Every sixth child and every third woman in Serbia is the victim of family violence, including sexual abuse. The numbers are still growing and there is a need for urgent action. Wide campaign is launched covering a number of different projects and activities dedicated to the specific issues of domestic violence & sexual abuse as well as youth education and development. The first project, part of "For Our Children" campaign, is "B92 Safe House". Once finished, this house will be given to Belgrade NGO "Counseling against Family Violence" to run and maintain it for unlimited period of time. This project includes fundraising, organization and logistics for building and furnishing the house of 220 m2. The project should be completed in autumn 2006, at the latest.

PUBLISHING
AUDIO BOOKS = selected publications of Samizdat B92 on audio CDs (primarily aimed at helping blind people).
PRO FEMINA = quarterly magazine for women literature and culture.  ProFemina was initiated in 1994 with the goal of starting academic research of women's culture in the Balkans. ProFemina is publishing the works of neglected authors and initiates & deepens issues related to gender differences.

(ENGAGED) CONTEMPORARY ART & CULTURE

REX CULTURAL Centre (Belgrade, Jevrejska 16) is the hub of contemporary, socially engaged art and analytical cultural practice. REX is a laboratory challenging the "border line" between culture and social activism in which different branches of contemporary art overlap.
REX was founded in 1994. Until the official establishment of B92 Fund, it was legal part of B92 activities.
The fundamental principles according to which REX functions are strengthening of individuals and promoting partnership. The basic aim is to empower individuals and groups to articulate and put into practice their ideas, to develop an understanding of social relations and use their knowledge and skills in a creative way.
The programs organized by REX are primarily carried out at the premises at 16 Jevrejska Street in Belgrade. These programs are initiated and produced by the REX group as well as co-productions between the REX and similar initiatives / groups / individuals.
REX provides a space principally intended for idea development and project planning through workshops, educational and residency programs. REX provides a space for public presentations of projects - programs developed at REX or elsewhere. REX offers the possibility for information exchange, exchange of experiences and learning.
We consider REX to be a truly European institution: our projects require collaboration of the colleagues coming from different towns in Serbia, as well as those working at different European centres. REX is the member of the European Network of Independent Cultural Centres - Trans Europe Halles.

RESOURCE CENTRE Belgrade is B92 Fund's youth program, with the goal to include young people in the process of conceiving and creating works of art, and to direct their creativity towards better understanding, shaping and improving their position in society.
FLUX Jr: The aim of this project is to approach contemporary artistic tendencies to young artists and audience - working on art projects beyond existing forms of cultural production and presentation. Flux Junior is tailored to bridge the gap between the creative capacities of young people and the restrictive institutional and community frameworks of their education and growing up and thus mapping methodological and production standards for further work on similar events.
KVASAC (Yeast) = On-line cultural and political magazine for young people entitled "Kvasac" consecrates on the analysis of contemporary community and political topics as perceived by the youth. The editorial team of Kvasac will be working on expanding the number of collaborators for the realization and preparation of the magazine as well as on locating and contacting new eventual donators for the financing of organizational and production's costs.

SHORT ELECTRONIC FORM FAIR (KEF) is the annual exhibition of short electronic art forms (which last or can be consumed in 30 sec). KEF is held from November 29 till December 1st since 2000, when we had its first launch. Works are gathered through the open call for short video clips, txt message, audio jingle, web banner, web site, 3D animation ... that could be analytical and/or critical response to the ‘world', joke or else, within the given time and annual topic. KEF is our response to dictatorship of commercial advertising.
