ARE YOU READY TO MAKE A CHOICE?

Third edition of "Free Zone" Film Festival took place from 9th to 14th of November 2007, at the Belgrade Cultural Centre.  This year, 18 feature-length and 18 short films were shown, all having world's hot issues and activism in common.

Protagonists of this year's "Free Zone" films offered a new quality of character.  Their heritage and burdens of their souls are different, and maybe most importantly, their liveliness is rarely seen.  These are ordinary people who bravely decided to do the hardest thing - take life into their own hands.  Whether they stand strong in accepting fate (as in "Persepolis", "SherryBaby", "In Between Days", "Billy the Kid"), challenge the limits of justice ("Goal Dreams", "The Prisoner of How I Planned to Kill Tony Blair"), question social norms and taboos of their communities ("Days of Glory", "Death of a President", "I Am") or simply cherish faith in change and better tomorrow ("Sicko", "Mark of Chain", "True North"), authors and heroes of these films realize that the opportunity to CHOOSE is what tells civilization from barbarism.  It is our responsibility to CHOOSE and take action, to bring civilization to our communities.

"Free Zone" Film Festival had two premieres:

  • Musical premiere at REX Cultural Centre on November 2nd, when "Dvojac bez kormilara" band performed for more than 200 people. "Dvojac bez kormilara" offers easy-to-understand jazz tunes to rock fans, and tells jazz colleagues the story of why are they running out of faithful audience.
  • Official premiere at the Belgrade Cultural Centre was opened by Serbian film director Gorcin Stojanovic (films "Ubistvo s predumisljajem/"Premeditated Murder", "Strsljen"/"The Hornet") on November 9th at 7pm.

During six days of the festival, "Free Zone" attracted 7 500 visitors - 107% jump from the first year's turnout!  Almost all shows were sold out.  Film "I Am" by Dorota Kadzierzavska was given the best film award.  Among top five movies were "Buddha's Lost Children", "Persepolis", "Goal Dreams" and "Mark of Cain".

All profit made from ticket sales has been donated to Daycare centre for homeless children.

SEE YOU INSIDE THE FREE ZONE!!!
